Dear Fellow Democrat,
One of the things I learned when I moved to Albany, in the northeast kingdom of Vermont, was that being accepted by your neighbors wasn’t a case of being a native Vermonter - it was all about winter. If you said that you were going to live here year round, no matter how cold and how deep the snow, the acceptance was instant and abundant.
I tell you this because one extremely cold and icy night in February, Jamie Hess traveled to my home in the far north, to make sure we all had a supply of Barack Obama buttons, posters, and yard signs. I have to tell you that on a perfect evening the drive takes and hour and a half, and if this night was perfect, it was more like a perfect nightmare. Yet, Jamie stayed while we talked about our Northeast Kingdom organizing efforts, and what everyone needed to carry on the Obama campaign. When we had finally talked ourselves out, Jamie began his long and sleepy trek home.
Well before that time in February, Jamie had been working hard for Barack Obama. When posters and buttons were on back-order from the campaign, Jamie found a supplier, put in an order of hundreds if not thousands, paid for the order with money out of his own pocket, and then delivered them to waiting supporters. He has traveled to several states to do the necessary but tedious and tiring work of canvassing, and he sends information and pictures from the campaign back to us at home.
Jamie does all of this with the same degree of incredible enthusiasm and energy that he began with months and months ago. Jamie has put so much of himself into the Obama for President campaign, that his work should not go unnoticed. If anyone has earned a chance to go to Denver, that person must be Jamie Hess.
Please vote for Jamie Hess as a Delegate to the National Convention.
